Long considered to be biologically impossible, it is often speculated by some that these curious creatures are the missing links in the mystery of evolution, and that we humans, in fact, descended from bridges and centipedes, rather than from apes.

Like its cousin, the grizzly bear, the bridgipede can grow up to 40 feet long and weigh over 5 tonnes. Because of its natural ability to camouflage and blend in with its surroundings like its ancestors, the passenger train and the chameleon, it is very rare to see one, even in the jungles of Arizona, its natural habitat.

Although an unconventional practice, they have been used to resurface the floors of buildings. However, since the late 1800s, this practice has rapidly dwindled upon the discovery of sturdier, more favorable, and readily available sources of wood-like substances, such as that found in trees.

It is also speculated by some that the decrease in the population of these mysterious creatures may be due to violent racial tensions sparked by differentiating wood colors and types, or what may be their only known natural predators, sharks. The existence of sharks, however, is still strongly debated, even among the most renowned in the scientific community.

Today there are fewer than 53 1/7th documented living bridgipedes extant in the world today.
